9th Turkey Energy Summit held in Antalya on October 9 – 10

9th Turkey Energy Summit was jointly held with 17th ERRA Energy Investment and Regulation Conference on October 9 – 10 in Antalya, Turkey with the participation of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez. Current energy topics and latest developments were discussed in the event which brought nearly 1000 representatives from public and private sector together during two days.

The joint event is built around the theme of Regional Energy - Global Synergy. It is co-organized by the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) and the Turkish Energy Summit (TES), and hosted by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) of Turkey.

At the inauguration ceremony, President of Turkey Energy Summit Murat Karahan, President of Zorlu Energy Group Sinan Ak, President of Sabanci Energy Group Kivanc Zaimler, Chairman of ERRA Mart Ots, President of EMRE Mustafa Yilmaz and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez gave their speeches.

In his address, Minister Donmez highlighted the necessity to mobilize local resources to ensure energy efficiency. "The ministry plans to accomplish a $10.9 billion investment in energy efficiency by 2023 and from that investment, a total of $30 billion will be generated in savings until 2033," the minister said and continued, "Turkey is an energy-intensive economy. If we want to boost our competitiveness, we have to manufacture the same unit of goods with less energy." Minister Donmez also recalled that the energy ministry will receive bids for Turkey's first offshore wind farm until Oct. 23.

He also addressed local and foreign investors and said: “I would like to invite the investors to new Renewable Energy Resource Areas Tenders once again. In the next 10 years, we aim to accomplish 10 thousand MW capacity in wind and solar.”
